Howdy folks!

Do tune in to OKTO this Sunday 12pm to catch the youth drama I am in, entitled Cafe 13. I promise you its a pretty good watch and it airs every Sunday. Its definitely a show kids and teenagers will love!

Here is the official synopsis from OKTO.sg

Stories with mild horror scenes and plots driven by love interests, humour, crimes of greed, jealousy and revenge served with hints of the supernatural and lots of crime solving.

The set is a cafe. It’s the home base of a group of teenagers who solve “supernatural” mysteries. Pitting their wits and bravery under mysterious and dangerous circumstances, they find clues to confirm that each and every paranormal situation is actually man-made. One small group made it their home away from home. They are our crime solvers known as Team 13.

conversations with a 5 year old

November 18th, 2009 by Adrian Jalaludin

Its great to be back in Singapore. I got in Monday night and settled right into my new apartment with no fuss and hassle. Its a bit dusty, needs a good wipe down but I reckon Ill do that over the weekend.

Had my fitting for the finals yesterday and it was great to meet the members from the Female team. It was fantastic to finally meet Madeline, who had to deal with me constantly joking around.

As for the outfits I am wearing for the big night, I really like the first one but the second one was, well, not exactly to my liking (to put it mildly). We finally found one I liked and we decided to go with that. Thank my luck stars!

On a side note, the most engaging and interesting conversations I have had in the past couple of days has been with my 5 year old niece. She has developed  the ‘ray romano’ style of sarcasm mixed with a tinge of ‘richard pryor’ in your face humor. Example #1

We are at a restaurant, my parents celebrating me leaving!

Neice: Uncle Adrian, are you going to be gone for a long time? -shes under the table tugging on my jeans.

Me: Yes, maybe three months, are you going to miss me?

Neice: Um, yah sure. – I cant tell her minds somewhere else and she’s thinking of something conniving.

She get up from under the table and goes to sit on my Mums lap and whispers,

Niece: Opah (Grandma) since Uncle Adrian is going to be away for a long time, we can open the window in his room and let the cat runaway.

My mum bursts out laughing, and says ‘No, Uncle Adrian loves Havana – we cant do that’.

Niece: Its okay, we can tell him someone accidentally opened the window and she ran away.

Conniving little 5 year old! She hates my cat because she has sinusitis and my cat loves biting her little toes.

Another little story I wish to share about my Niece. I love winding her up, she can take, but she can also dish it.

Me: Hey I think your Mum is lazy, she doesn’t go to the gym like me

Niece: She not lazy! If she is lazy why is she working? Huh? Huh? She goes to work every morning and comes back at night! – She saying this with her hands on hip, which are swaying left to right, like african-american women would do when they are trying to make a point.

Me: Nah she’s lazy

Niece: She is not okay! You are lazy, you wake up at 1pm everyday and all you do is sleep sleep. You work only once a week, mummy told me what your doing is not really work!! Acting, hmph, hosting blah! – Waving and point her finger at me.

Niece 1 Uncle Adrian 0

what a terrible weekend. let me count the ways.

November 9th, 2009 by Adrian Jalaludin

Terrible reason #1.

Doc says I need surgery but I opted to have it in a couple of months. Need to head back to Singapore to continuing paving a way for my acting career. I already have one foot-well maybe just some toes-in the door, after snagging a lead role in an upcoming 14 episode youth drama on OKTO.

I do most of my TV hosting/travel shows in Malaysia and I have one planned in the second quarter of 2010. So ill need to undergo surgery sometime in February, am so not looking forward to the surgery and rehab.

Terrible reason #2

All I have for company is the four walls that I call my room and the not-so-comfortable mattress I have for a bed. I have been through about 20 movies and the only one I recommend is ‘Scent of a Woman’. I have seen the movie numerous times, but goodness me it is a classic that has stood the test of time.

Terrible reason #3

I have only been out once this weekend and that was to attend my niece’s birthday party. Baby sitting 5 year old kids is not part of my repertoire. To much sweets and cakes and climbing up the walls they go. Luckily there was a bookstore nearby and I managed to grab a couple of books while the kids were busy with the magician.

However come Friday I will be heading back to Singapore and ill be looking forward to that.

Meanwhile, I am not one to take pictures, but here are a couple of randomly selected pictures I decided to upload.

the pain, the agony.

November 5th, 2009 by Adrian Jalaludin

Its a Thursday morning, 3 am to be precise and I am in a huge amount of pain and agony.

What was going to be a good game of futsal turned into a nightmare after twenty minutes.

All that I remember was hearing a snap from my right knee, an all mighty shooting pain, that can only be described as -an all mighty shooting pain- that caused me to fall the ground and grimace in pain. Nay scream in pain. Apparently it was quite a sight. I wouldn’t know though, I must have blacked out because the next thing I knew I was on the bench, lying sideways with ice on my knee and cold sweat pouring down my face.

A friend (a world class champ) brought me to the nearest hospital. Did the usual, pain killers, x-ray and scheduled an appoint to see an orthopedic come Thursday afternoon.

The emergency doctor said its most likely an ACL tear cause there was no visible bone damage to my knee on the x-ray.

However I still have a smile on my face, yes the 70cc of pain killers they jabbed me with may account for that, but the nurses sure do crack me up.

#Enter emergency room – in a wheelchair#

Nurse- Hi sir which leg hurts? (It was blatantly obvious it was my right knee, I am not to sure what didn’t give it away. Maybe it was because my right knee was the size of my head or they just like to ask questions they already know the answers too)

Nurse- Can you stand up? (Sure if I had a third leg)

Nurse- Did it happen today? (No miss, it happened yesterday, I didn’t want to come yesterday because I dont like coming to hospitals on a Tuesday, I prefer Thursday mornings, they say Thursday is the new Friday!)

Nurse- The doctor said we should do an x-ray, do you want to? ( No, I want to see a shaman, I dont believe in x-rays, the shaman will be able to see right through my knee and tell me whats wrong)

#X-ray room#

Nurse (different one now-still in my wheelchair)- Can you stand?  (Dejavu, I thought it was Groundhog day but with no Bill Murray insight.)

Oh I could go on. And on.

Come the finals for 50 gorgeous, ill be gracing the event -in all probability-  with crutches and with my puppy dog face that will say please give me your sympathy and warmth, and maybe a hug. Pretty please?

012Staring into the distance and wondering, why oh why the pain the agony?

Oh pretty please.

October 30th, 2009 by Adrian Jalaludin

As I have been overseas, for what seems to be an age now, I cant get my hands on this months Female magazine – you know which one I’m talking about.

So pretty please, could a kind soul please tell me what the short little snippet for contestant 35 is, thanks so much in advance.

What have I been up to this week? Well I can tell you Ive been stressed and depressed this whole week. I witnessed Man United completely run off the pitch by a very mediocre Liverpool side. United had no fire, no fight, they seem to have been fazed by the moment not to mention we were playing against 12 men – yes the referee does count.

But my spirits were picked up after watching the youngsters have a good outing in the Carling Cup. I am pleased the youngsters have matured from last season and are now heaping loads of pressure on the first team. Was well impressed with Obertan, Macheda, Welbeck, the twins (though Rafael did look a bit lost in the center of midfield) and Owen still is a quality finisher with a great footballing brain.

However my frustration with United loosing to Liverpool still irked me, so I put on my boots and joined some mates for a game of futsal. I cant be humble here, caused I played a blinder, scoring one and setting up two. I may have lost my stamina but my ability to beat a man, trickery, and speed is still there. I finally managed to let all my frustration and stress out. All I have to say now is, see you at OLD TRAFFORD!!!

PS. Any Liverpool fans reading this, its 18 tittles each and we looked best equipped to make it 19!

Till next time, take it easy all

I only came for the preview.

October 17th, 2009 by Adrian Jalaludin

I remember watching a Star Wars documentary eons ago and it mentioned when “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back” was about to be released, drones of movie goers would hit the cinemas just to watch the preview then leave. Now why do I mention this inane little fact? Its because I wont be able to make it to the preview for one of the biggest events this year as I am currently overseas on shoot, which is a real bummer!

I was really looking forward to attending the preview, meeting the other 49 gorgeous people, the Female team (especially Madeline!) and the legions of Female magazine subscribers. Nevertheless, Ill try and keep my blog as active as possible, so even though some of you may not meet me in person at the preview you’ll be able to get into my psyche!

Till next time, take it easy all
