letting the good times roll

October 22nd, 2009 by Leonard Lu

Vacation is not just about having days off from work and being lazy lying around. I prefer spending it with family and friends –old and new. And with good food and drinks, too! *wink*

no, we're not trying to be funny, we're not ready yet!

my siblings! no, we're not trying to be funny, we're not ready yet!

We decided to have chicken BBQ for dinner after we surprised our parents of my arrival. My sister came home a few days ahead of me. *hehe*

And a reunion with my elementary~high school and college friends, some of them came home from working abroad for a vacation, too. Turned out it was not just drinks and food at all, it was small talks and reminiscing.

So, it’s friends and family!

What I lost in SG

October 22nd, 2009 by Leonard Lu

Three years ago, I came here with a trunk of clothes, my Bible, my family’s prayers, and my faith in God. Never considered my walk-in-job-hunting as part of hard labor, rather I personally call it my ‘walkathon’ and sight-seeing time (which then would lead me to meditating at the end of the day). I’d walk blocks and blocks of tall buildings looking for jobs and admiring Singapore’s busy city scenery, observing people buzzing around the stations and everywhere! Of course, Singapore is far more developed than where i come from and one can’t really help but get more excited to experience what life will offer to someone like me in this fast-paced city.

As I held on tightly to my faith, I didn’t just met warm and friendly people, which later became my good friends (too), I also grew spiritually and closer to God. I was not only seeking for a job and to make a name for myself, i was also unknowingly seeking God more. One cannot grow and be polished alone or just all by himself, so God sent friends! And led me to City Harvest Church! *big smile*

Wait! Never think that being a Christian and going to church is such a boring thing! *wink* Let me show you guys what I am talking about…

and sometimes..

mirror, mirror...above the escalator..??

Yes, it is also a way and a day to spend time with friends after a busy, tiring week from work.

CHC's 20th Anniversary at Singapore Indoor Stadium

No, we’re not collecting or selling umbrellas, we’re at the Singapore Indoor Stadium attending CHC’s 20th Anniversary! But I won’t think twice to let you stand under my umbrella when it’s raining more then ever..eh..eh.. *haha*

We also participated in HSA’s blood letting drive…and tried to be brave, too.

For blood gives life.

Or…

When really tired, we just go straight home. But not without taking pictures first! And checking our fingers..?? err..?? *LOL*

peace and we are united

Who said Christians don’t know how to have fun?? *wink*

Trying my luck here in Singapore wasn’t all pain and tough, you see. It’s not just $$ that i gained, but friends and relationship with Him.

So, did i lose something? Yes, my weight! And I don’t miss it! *hehe*

And above all else, I thank God for walking with me all throughout these years. Thank You!

Mi primera

October 21st, 2009 by Leonard Lu

Mabuhay, everyone!

This simply means, “Long live, everyone!” in Filipino.  I am of Chinese and Filipino descent –oh! And a pinch of Spanish blood, too, but was totally raised a Filipino!  Which means, I try to make my family first on my list, and well…we always try to survive in any situations that are thrown at us.  Yes, that’s a little too biased an observation, I admit.  *grin*

I bet everyone has heard about the recent typhoon and flashflood tragedy in the Philippines these past weeks, and I commend Filipinos all around the world who tried to help the typhoon victims and Filipinos who were in the same situation but chose to extend their help to those who were badly struck by the flood.  And what’s more amazing, is that people of different races and beliefs extended their help to the Filipino victims, too.  That was really inspiring and heartwarming!  And we never miss a beat to say thank you to everyone and plant a seed of respect for them in our hearts.  Then I realized a new meaning for beauty –that could be the true meaning of beauty.

Well, not to get too dramatic now, I am Leonard, an outgoing 27-year old who’s been buzzin’ around Singapore’s metro for almost 3 years now, checkin’ out some fascinating architectures, delicacies, cool bars and party places, making  Singaporean friends, observing cultural differences yet admiring the harmony, experiencing Singapore and just living life!  And yes of course, I work!  I earned a degree in Management Accounting, as a working student, in my native country, the Philippines!  The island that’s made up of islands –7,107 of it! *hahah! Blah! Blah!*  And am now working as an Accounts Assistant cum Personnel Admin at a prestigious company.

Singapore has shaped my life for the past years, it is a big part of me now and I’m hoping that I would benefit more from my decision to continue living in this great place.  This is just one of the many reasons why I thank my family a lot, and for the simple things I’ve learned from them that made me appreciate the life I’m having now, that I am making now.

So much of an introduction is this!  This simply means I’m proud to be Pinoy!  Hmm..Wonder what part of me I would be sharing next. LOL

Oh! And of course, will I ever forget to thank FEMALE Mag for this shockingly rare opportunity to be considered as one of the 50 Gorgeous People!  Thank you so much.  Till next time!
