Melissa Faith Yeo

Last But Not Least

November 26th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

From skanky Ah Lian to sexy model

Remember her? She’s been on the covers of magazines and appeared in television commercials, but most recently she was featured in the November issue of Female.

Yes, Melissa Faith Yeo, the 23-year-old Singaporean model is also running for Female 50 Gorgeous People.

As part of the competition, audience can get to know the contestants by reading their blog entries on the official website, and then vote.

But Melissa was silent for a long time since the site launched on October 25, and only post her first entry on November 12.

To introduce herself, she wrote:

“Most of my friends call me Mel. My family calls me Lisa. My brother calls me Fatty. Occasionally, some call me Faith. Some also know me as the model. Or the Fujifilm girl. Or the girl/model who documented her boob job on her blog.”

She further explained that she had been “missing” from the blog space because she “had nothing to say”.

Diva had the opportunity to get to know the fresh-faced beauty better through an interview.

Currently Melissa makes a living through modeling. She focuses mostly on advertisements and editorials as she tells us that she’s too short for runways. When asked if she loves what she does, Melissa says with gusto: “Hell, yea!”

While this contest is about being most gorgeous, we had her what she found heavenly about herself. Melissa tells us the answer is simple: “My face. It pays my bills.”

Her advice for looking good is drinking lots of water and having sufficient rest at night. Sleep, according to her, is “too under-rated and everyone can use more of it!” But if you want to be as gorgeous as her, ultimately it is important to have confidence.

But Melissa did not always look this divine. She too has had her fair share of fashion disasters. “My look a few years ago was pretty Ah Lian – skanky, but tasteless,” stated Female magazine. But Melissa hopes she’s improved now. (Well, in her words, ‘hell, yea!’) - Thank you! :D But my Ah Lian days were 10 years ago – not a few – when I was in secondary school, which was ‘trendy’ back then. No, I wasn’t friends with Ris Low. HAHAHAHAHA!

A beauty essential she swears by is fake eyelashes which help to open up the eyes, but she insists they have to be “natural-looking falsies”. She claims: “Apart from Indians, I believe it’s a must-have for Asian girls. However, we should only use the natural-looking ones to avoid looking like an Ah Lian or trashy.” We believe the lady speaks from experience? - Nah, falsies weren’t in a decade ago.

This vivacious girl spices up the interview by sharing with us that her is pole dancing (now we can all imagine how she would make even a thin liveless pole look good). It was love at first try for the thrill-seeking babe as she got addicted to it the moment she took it up when she was 21.

But Melissa admits: “It’s hard work, but it pays off as soon as I’m swinging around and climbing the pole. Aside from the sense of accomplishment it brings, it’s extremely fun.”

We also found out that humour is an essential in her life. Being able to laugh at herself makes it bearable in an industry that is deemed “bitchy” and “critical”. While others may critisise her looks or mannerism, the only person who can get to her is herself.

She reveals to us that she is her harshest critique and she ends up second guessing herself perhaps too often.

Humour is also an important characteristic she’d like to have in an ideal partner.

On dates, she is equally harsh with boyfriend potentials. She says: “Maybe if he’s boring or talks too much about himself, it’ll be a waste of time.” - Really. I’d ask to go somewhere else to join a bunch of friends or just go home.

Melissa also told us quite frankly: “I get bored easily. He has to be able to make me laugh and laugh at things too. I’ll die with a guy who takes everything seriously.” – Been there. Not nice.

Shedding her wild persona, she gets serious and elaborates on her ideal partner:

“Compatibility: His frequency has to match mine because it makes communicating much, much easier. Communication’s very important in a relationship. And there has to be chemistry, of course.

“Love: Basically being understanding, caring and faithful. A guy who knows how to love can’t go wrong. And I’m the kinda person who needs a lot of space, so being understanding is vital.

Melissa tells us she lives by the saying: “If you want it, go get it”. Perhaps, if the competition is a pageant, you’ll see Melissa give all she’s got. But since this is largely a voting contest, you will have to cast a vote to give her your support.

The finals of the competition will be held at Zouk tomorrow night so that means that if you’d like to vote for Melissa or the other contestants, you only have mere hours before voting closes tonight at 10 pm.

If Melissa wins tomorrow night, it will give the up-and-coming model even greater mileage in her career as a model. But will her experience as a model give her an edge over the rest? - I think we all stand on fair ground. But more importantly, THANK YOU, FEMALE FOR NANNYING US ALL!

Alright, here’s the end of my last official post as a Female 50 Gorgeous People contestant. Time for me to get outta home and report to Zouk! See you guys later! :)

My Sunday

November 25th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

So anyway, I spent part of my Sunday night watching this popular U.S. hit series on StarWorld. (I’m not telling you the title so as to not spoil the show for you, if you have not caught it, or vice-versa.)

This episode, one of the main characters died. And she wasn’t very well-liked. (I hope i’m not giving away too much.) Of course, the rest of the show circled around the life of the dead character (aiyo, if only I can say her name!).

But more importantly, it depicted her as a good person and how she touched the lives of others despite being unpopular. This particular episode taught a very valuable lesson about life and death. Some memorable quotes that summed up the show were, “Live it up today because there won’t be a lot of ‘tomorrows’” and “It is not hard to die when you have lived”.

I hope to think the message to us is to stop taking life all too seriously and to stop being people-pleasers because life’s too short to spend pleasing everyone (too true, in my opinion). Like I said, “I hope to think”, I might have gotten ‘the message’ wrong but as you can tell, I love living life my own way despite what others think.

Apart from bumming in front of the TV, the afternoon was spent walking off a hangover. Benny Benassi played at Zouk the night before. I LOVE his mixes. I even use his signature song, Satisfaction, as my ringtone. But the creator of my ringtone disappointed. Sorry to say, his whole set was the epitome of anti-climatic. Ah well, at least I had fun company! Oh wait, I digressed. Sorry. LOL.

As I was saying, I walked. But it wasn’t just any normal walk – it was a walkathon for the Dover Park Hospice. I went there by myself but it wasn’t too painful. In fact, it was a nice feeling killing 2 birds with 1 stone by exercising and doing my bit for charity at the same time. And! Raffles Place looked soooo nice on a Sunday afternoon!

I just wanted to jump and roll about in that garden of flowers.

The THRONG of walkers. Don't ask me if I felt lonely - I DID! Everyone was with a friend or their whole family (extended relatives and babies included). I got to know about this event only at the very last minute, so I had no chance to ask about for suckers to accompany me. LOL.

This was the last photo I took. I decided to focus on walking in case I tripped over and fell on my nose, then I won’t be gorgeous enough for the finals already. :( :( :( HAHAHAHAHHAAHAA. KIDDINGGGGG!!!!! Again, don’t take life too seriously.  It’s suffocating.

Random note: I come from Singapore. It’s the world’s best port and airport. It recently held the APEC meeting. And it’s now having Jet Li as a guest. I feel like having orange juice.

:)

November 24th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

I was just gonna head off for an afternoon nap, but decided to drop a note here before doing so.

I’m going for pole dancing later!!! Can’t wait! I took pole classes in 2007 but stopped after my trainer decided to become lazy. (No, for real. She kept canceling classes until I gave up on this sport. And yes, I view pole dancing as a sport. A very sexy one at that.) Anyway, I hope it all goes well. Hahahaha. My friend posted this on my Facebook wall a few days back after I told her I’m going back to pole dancing. FREAKING FUNNY OK! GO SEE!

Stripper Pole Epic Fail

Totally irrelevant random note: I dreamt I walked into Ikea and saw fanciful avant-garde sofas costing a bomb. And I remembered saying, “Ey this is wrong. Ikea is supposed to sell cheap furniture!”

Explanation: Exam fever la. Ikea was one of the exam topics, plus I wasn’t over the fact that my exam was over plainly because I thought I didn’t answer it perfectly. I’m just hoping for an A- now. :( Ah well… Time to move on… Interesting dream though! I remembered the couch had an in-built lamp extending from its arm.

Btw, a bit on the depressing side… A cat was strangled to death. :( I saw a tweet on this and re-tweeted it myself, and I really hope you can do the same to spread the word! SPCA is offering $1,000 for info relating the cat’s death – or rather, murder. It was found dead at Blk 205, Toa Payoh North. If you can help with more than spreading this piece of news, all the better! :) Thanks man!

Urgh. THIS IS JUST SICK!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( But well, it’s already gone. The only thing we can do besides moving on with our lives (as if we wouldn’t selfishly do so already), is to prevent shit like that from happening again.

OK time for bed. Good afternoon, Singapore.

The end is near…

November 17th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

My exam’s tomorrow. My one and only paper for this semester. I can’t tell you how much I’m waiting to get this over and done with so that I can move on with the other areas of my life. I love studying, but sometimes it gets too… draggy…? Even so, I’m hoping to ace my paper. Actually, I’m hoping to ace all my subjects.

I may sound like a crazy over-achiever wanting such high grades. Well, yea I must admit that the sense of achievement thrills me. But I’m not only doing this for myself – I’m doing this for my dad too. See, my dad’s been paying for my education my whole life. And all my life, I was always the average student that blended in with the rest of the class. I never stood out academically, neither was I last in class (well, OK at least that’s comforting…). But I knew I was so only because I was a lazy, lazy student. So since I decided to befriend textbooks again, I told myself that I must want to do well and go all the way and even push myself. Or not, YET AGAIN, I’ll have quite a pointless school experience. Not to mention a waste of time and my dad’s money. Plus, it’s a degree I’m taking and it might be my last shot at studying again, so I believe it’s only fair to give it my all and finally put a smile on my dad’s face with my results.

That said, the end is also near for this competition! As most of the other contestants have already established in this blog, the finals are in just a week. Looking forward to it!!! I just had my fitting today and I’m loving what I’ll be wearing. :D

50 Gorgeous aside, the only other time I wore a BeBe dress was for E! Entertainment’s party at Dempsey’s Prime Society.

Eunice Olsen approached me to ask where I got my dress from and told me how much she liked it etc… She was verrrrry friendly and in my opinion, one of the few to dispel the stereotype of pretentious celebrities.

Anyway, Rachel Kum brought me to the event. Read more of it here. Rachel’s now in Sri Lanka doing a charity fashion show. Awwww! :) Be safe, Rachel! Come back soon!

OK, I should go get ample rest for tomorrow’s exam. It starts at 10am and NO, I’m not a morning person. Haha. Please wish me luck! :)

Camera rolling… Silence on set… Action!

November 15th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

It was a last minute call to act in an NTU student project. It didn’t pay much, the shoot location was far (NTU), and the call time was early. I agreed anyway – because I LOVE acting that much. Plus, it was a remake of the classic film, Bonnie and Clyde.

Well, there wasn’t a fancy set or a similar art direction to the original film but I had to give it to these students for adapting the script to modern times, yet keeping the essence of the story, and making do with the resources they had.

Anyway, this is NTU. It’s so huge, I look at it more as a neighbourhood than a school. And because it’s extremely FAAAAAAAAR, it’s geographically misleading to say that it’s “in the west”. As far as I’m concerned (no pun intended), NTU’s in another country. This was precisely why I decided not to take my degree in this school. I’d be spending half of my family’s inheritance on cab rides la! Hahaha… Anyway…

As much as I hate this location, I've to admit it looks pretty at this time of the day!

A funny coincidence, indeed. I knew Blood (yea, I call him Blood) since 2 years ago when he wasn’t acting. He was studying sports in Perth, in fact. So, not even in the remotest part of my mind did I expect to end up acting with him.

Yep, I camwhore even while getting mic-ed up.

What can I say? I love taking photos. Surprise, surprise…

Well, it’s a rare chance that I’m awake at this time of the day. It’s an ungodly hour for me. I had to take the chance to snap as many photos as I could despite the eye-bags. LOL!!! As someone told me before, “It’s not camwhoring – it’s capturing memories.” ;)

I had a smart sound man who worked a lot on hiding the wires because the dress I wore was IMPOSSIBLE to hold a wireless mic.

Savouring the morning

Savouring the morning

I don't know how reliable the morning sun is in terms of tanning, but I do know that it provides the skin with Vitamin D. And for that, I enjoyed basking in the sun that morning - then taking the chance to tan. :p

I don't know how reliable the morning sun is in terms of tanning, but I do know that it provides the skin with Vitamin D. And for that, I enjoyed basking in the sun that morning - then taking the chance to tan. :p

For my blog readers who asked me about my base makeup, I use:

1) A tinted moisturiser as a base. I try to avoid liquid foundation as much as possible. It’s tedious to apply and remove (yes, I’m that lazy), and has more of a tendency to clog pores.

2) Anna Sui’s pencil concealer for my blemishes.

3) Then dust on Anna Sui’s loose powder evenly. I prefer using loose powder for the translucent effect. I also avoid two-way cakes for the same reasons but they are useful for shoots! Too bad I stupidly forgot to bring my compact and had to make do with my concealer. Luckily, it wasn’t as disastrous as I anticipated it to be, even though I was filming outdoors. (I kept asking Blood if the sun has melted my makeup off already – I was sweating like a pig!) It was tedious to constantly hunt for a mirror just to dot on my concealer repeatedly, but it worked wonders! You can’t imagine how relieved I was to have this trusty thing to save the day.

The shoot wrapped in less than 4 hours. We ended before 1pm. It was a lucky day for everybody, I guess. Hahaha! First, I could wake up and be there on time. Second, the crew has solutions for every problem we ran into and recovered quickly. Third, my makeup situation was remedied. Fourth, we didn’t over run! Well, let’s hope the end product’s as good as we want it to look. Will post it here if I get the copy before the finals. :)

Random note: Despite all that, I didn’t feel tired after filming. I’ll usually head home after my morning jobs (shoots,/filming/events) to resume sleeping. But this time, I ended up working out. It was too weird, I had to tweet about it.

OK, that’s a bit of my randomness. More about me: I tend to type out my most irrelevant thoughts or talk to myself when I blog. Get used to it. There’ll be more to come.

P.S. Wrote about the 50 GP preview on my blog. Go check it out! :)
