Hi Hanz, though I don’t really follow Singapore Idols very much, but I happened to watch yesterday show, and you are right! Sylvia definitely can sing. She really have a strong vocals.

And talking about good vocals, YOU TOO have a beautiful voice! :) (heheh.. I listen to your Razor TV interview) *thumbs up*

well, i guess, if she really is a true talent (not juz, as compared to the other SI contestants), then she would have won the Idol held in her native country.

Nah, I’m not trying to be an idiot, nor am I one in my daily life. Not racists, nor sexists. None of the above. But this is SI. We all know how good her vocals are. We all know our own are not on par with the overseas talent. Again I iterate, this is SI. SINGAPORE idol. A platform to showcase, OUR local talent. A platform for OUR less than ’stunning’ vocalists to shine, to do good, to get a chance in life. And seriously, come on! While trying to be Singaporean proud, I know deep down, none of our singers can compare to the pinoys. Hell man! they were born to sing! Power vocals all the way! (not trying to be stereotypical here too. thats just the way the cookie crumble).

I hold PR status in a western country. I’m just being pragmatic. Equality for all, regardless of skin colour and ethnicity, in a given community/nation, is textbook perfect. Even, in the most developed and cultured of country. It is an ideal. The judges let her through, the public however have their last say. To me, when a pinoy sings, I never fail to get enthralled. But is it fair to the kids in our own community? U tell me. Do I need to literally spell out why she’s in the bottom then?

I’ll probably get tonnes of flak for this comment. Irregardless, I’m being practical and truthful. It is the way it is. This year’s SI, with the inclusion of the overseas talents, is to me, unfair for our own kids, while striving to be fair to the others who have helped in our community, albeit without a pink I/C.

@ Merry: Thanks, you are too nice! Your baby is so cute!

@ Jazz: I enjoy reading your comment. Well, you have a good point of view :)

I’m afraid I’d have to correct you but Sylvia Ratonel is a Singaporean. She is born in Singapore and holding a pink IC.

She has good vocals and a good personality. What matters is that Singapore loves her and that makes her a Singapore “Idol”.

Please join Sylvia Ratonel’s Facebook Fan page to support her endeavour in becoming the first female Singapore Idol.
