My Sunday

November 25th, 2009 by Melissa Faith Yeo

So anyway, I spent part of my Sunday night watching this popular U.S. hit series on StarWorld. (I’m not telling you the title so as to not spoil the show for you, if you have not caught it, or vice-versa.)

This episode, one of the main characters died. And she wasn’t very well-liked. (I hope i’m not giving away too much.) Of course, the rest of the show circled around the life of the dead character (aiyo, if only I can say her name!).

But more importantly, it depicted her as a good person and how she touched the lives of others despite being unpopular. This particular episode taught a very valuable lesson about life and death. Some memorable quotes that summed up the show were, “Live it up today because there won’t be a lot of ‘tomorrows’” and “It is not hard to die when you have lived”.

I hope to think the message to us is to stop taking life all too seriously and to stop being people-pleasers because life’s too short to spend pleasing everyone (too true, in my opinion). Like I said, “I hope to think”, I might have gotten ‘the message’ wrong but as you can tell, I love living life my own way despite what others think.

Apart from bumming in front of the TV, the afternoon was spent walking off a hangover. Benny Benassi played at Zouk the night before. I LOVE his mixes. I even use his signature song, Satisfaction, as my ringtone. But the creator of my ringtone disappointed. Sorry to say, his whole set was the epitome of anti-climatic. Ah well, at least I had fun company! Oh wait, I digressed. Sorry. LOL.

As I was saying, I walked. But it wasn’t just any normal walk – it was a walkathon for the Dover Park Hospice. I went there by myself but it wasn’t too painful. In fact, it was a nice feeling killing 2 birds with 1 stone by exercising and doing my bit for charity at the same time. And! Raffles Place looked soooo nice on a Sunday afternoon!

I just wanted to jump and roll about in that garden of flowers.

It was CROWDED!

My favourite building in Singapore! I wish to stay here for a weekend! Haha. Another favourite building will be Parkview Square, which everyone seems to be calling Gotham City.

The THRONG of walkers. Don't ask me if I felt lonely - I DID! Everyone was with a friend or their whole family (extended relatives and babies included). I got to know about this event only at the very last minute, so I had no chance to ask about for suckers to accompany me. LOL.

This was the last photo I took. I decided to focus on walking in case I tripped over and fell on my nose, then I won’t be gorgeous enough for the finals already. :( :( :( HAHAHAHAHHAAHAA. KIDDINGGGGG!!!!! Again, don’t take life too seriously.  It’s suffocating.

Random note: I come from Singapore. It’s the world’s best port and airport. It recently held the APEC meeting. And it’s now having Jet Li as a guest. I feel like having orange juice.

FAITH

November 25th, 2009 by Merry Riana

When was the last time you prayed?
….

Seriously!
Was it just a few minutes ago?
Was it this morning before you go to work?
Was it last week?
or Was it many years ago until you can’t even remember?

Well, if you already answer my 1st question, then help me to answer my 2nd question.

What did you pray for?

Did you pray for a good health?
Did you pray for you to have more strength?
Did you pray for wisdom?
etc…

Now my 3rd questions …

Have you ever thought that maybe, we don’t really need to ask for all those things?
Maybe we already have all those things.
Maybe everything that mentioned above are already within us.
When God created us, He created us with wisdom, strength, knowledge, and all the positiveness that a person could ever have.

So when we already have all those things, does it mean that we don’t need to pray anymore?

Definitely not.
We still need to pray, but instead of asking for those things mentioned above, I believe the most important thing for us to ask is to have FAITH.

One of my mentors recently shared this analogy with me. He said that we are similar like TVs. When you see a TV that is not on, you will not be able to see anything, or hear anything. But you actually know that everything is actually inside the TV: the movie, the sound, the motion picture, etc. There are many channels that you can access and there are many things that you can enjoy. All you need to do is to turn on the TV.

Similarly like our lives. We as an individuals are full of potential, everything is already inside us, but we need to have FAITH to ‘on’ it and to be able to see it.

Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible

So remember, the next time you pray. Ask for FAITH !

A tinge of brit’ish

November 25th, 2009 by Annabel Tan

A fan of Jamie Oliver , I am.927129ce

A friend’s trip to London & beyond has got me recalling…

Can’t resist a conversation he had with a guest on his show recently
(Insert Brit accent)

Jamie : I hear you don’t cook why is that?
Guest: I feel that food is an interruption to the day
Jamie: (Bad look.) Are you married?
Guest: Yes for 15 years.
Jamie: You have to cook for your missus because when you cook for your missus she loves you more and you get a bit of a “yes” (fist action) more.
Guest: I don’t like being on your show much
(Audience Laughter)

 A tinge of brit’ish humour.
But its true hey. Guys who cook definitely get a bit more lovin’ in my book. If you know what i mean.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Following a quote Jamie said about dinner parties
“Life’s too short to sit next to boring people.”

Responding in the realm of my mind
“But if you’ve enough zest in you, you can sit next to a bin and produce trash-ure anyday”

Thats a good dose of singaporean born and bred, just for you;)

Or for me anyway.

So piece of advice for those young dudesss out there: Think carefully before you enter and play carefully when you are in!

First post after so long.. Sorry!!

November 25th, 2009 by Keith Tan

Hi all! The show is only 2 days from now and here’s my first post… lol.

Really, apologies especially to the organizers for my lack of participation here! My excuse is WORK albeit not a very good one, lol. Ahh but I reckon it is never too late yea?

My experience about being in 50 Gorgeous People:

1) Lots of teasing from colleagues as being the “Gorgeous”

2) Bets on whether I can win this competition – and lots of debates on the possible prize I can win.

3) Seats given to me on packed trains.

4) Discounts when I visit Killiney or Simply Sandwich

5) Chocolates on my desk at work -)

===wow, not bad huh===

Well, all the above are true except for 3, 4 and 5……

And finally, here’s a photo taken by a friend during the preview show:

ION Preview

ION Preview

I actually have pictures of the other contestants and would very much like to share them. But I guess it’s privacy for the individuals.  Anyway, if you (contestants) want them, you know who to look for -)

Well, Thursday is just around the corner but I plan to hit a few more entries first!

Enroute Musings – Universal Traits

November 25th, 2009 by Annabel Tan

Musings ‘Procured’ sometime in October.

enroute“enroute to bukit timah for dinner today, i saw a variety of colourful people.
Different clusters spoke in different languages. Most of which were foreign to me but certain traits soon became apparently universal.

A child’s laughter,
a parents pride.

sheer tiredness
a baby’s cry

irritated strangers
emoting teenagers

the fashion saavy, the perpetually sloppy
beautiful people, grumpy orgres.

growling tummies,
flu-inspired sneezes.germsbeyondournakedeyes.

hidden smiles and uncontrollable frowns.
blackberries nokias i-everything….

multi-genre music seeping out of eardevices.
their faces, placid.

hummers and singers
readers and texters.

groceries and takeaways.
rustling paper/plastic bags.
slightly softer now
eco reusables showing how.

perfumed scents, toxic body gas,
shampooed hair and funky breadth.

Loving,quarrelsome,PDA couples.

the louD chattertots the defeated cave seekers.

and all… i mean all sorts of armpits. Realism at its best.

as for the universal traits i love the most…

Fade out the crowd … tune out the sounds
focus on the warm smiles and
glimpses of everyday kindness.”

Lili Nassir

cause i am always learning…

November 24th, 2009 by Lili Nassir

being a leader is no easy feat. a constructive feedback may be perceived as a personal attack to some. decisions made may be conceived as some form of a hindrance.

its not easy to be both a good guy and a good leader. more often than not, a leader that gets things done, do so with an iron-fist. i don’t have to name an iron-fist leader. just watching the movie, ‘the devil wears prada’, is enough to put two and two together.

ruthless leader=work being done

having said that, building a good rapport with your men, is also essential. good rapport goes beyond giving them incentives. when it comes to EQ, the ‘rabbit and carrot’ rule, may not work. well, it may work, for awhile. unfortunately, not on a long run.

i think, every leader should practise the art of listening.

listening=i care

i care=similarities

similarities=good rapport

good rapport=things done efficiently

being a leader is not only about being able to lead a group of people to get a certain job done. but a leader also shoulders the burden to be their voice.

definitely a learning experience for me. kudos to them leaders out there.

moving on.

i’ve ticked most of my boxes and left with only the finals. counting down now. hee…
