The Day Has Come…

December 1st, 2011 by Joreis Ong

Hello everyone! Today’s the big day! A couple more hours to go and the 50 Female Gorgeous People of 2011 will strut their stuffs at Chijmes (or I think we would, since they asked us to report there so early).

From the fitting to the photo shoot to the preview and to today, it has been an interesting experience for me, especially in blogging. I can say that 50GP  2011 rekindled my passion in blogging and it has been nothing less than fun and exciting for me.

Many say that Singapore is a boring place with nothing much to see or do. I hope that the entries in my blog have showcased that Singapore is a pretty exciting place with happening events that caters to everyone. Come to think of it, maybe I should offer to write for the Tourism board. LOL =p

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this event possible from the make-up artists and photographers who made us all look so gorgeous, to the helpful people who helped us select clothings that bring out the “WOW” factor in us, the editorial team for doing such a fabulous feature of us in Female magazine and of course the ones manging the event tonight to make it a big success. Last but not least, I’d like to thank all 50 Gorgeous People and our supporters for going through this journey for the past few months.

Time to wrap up and head to Chijmes! See everyone soon! (^_^)

#18 wtf is that?!

November 30th, 2011 by Justin Cheong

wow, i can’t believe it’s been 21 days since my last post. such ill discipline. bad boy, justin, bad boy! excuse me while i go flagellate myself.

no, but seriously, i’ve been damn busy and tired and i just got back from a splendid getaway to tokyo (my first!) where i also encountered the weirdest and, i daresay, the grossest thing i’ve ever come across in my life. ladies and gentlemen, please meet the axolotl:

it’s a “neotenic salamander”, but “WTF IS THAT?!” will do nicely. which, coincidentally, is a phrase i found myself uttering quite often in exciting and thrilling tokyo. every corner i turned, every alley i walked down, there was a surprise awaiting me – whether it was an orgasmic bowl of ramen (it’s autumn now, so any hot nosh was welcome) or a rare transformer (the toy, not that thing that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another) or eye-popping lesbian anime porn (i chanced upon it, really!), it was a sensory overload for me. how not to cry out “wtf is that?!”

anyway, tomorrow is the finals of female’s 50 gorgeous people, an experience that has been worthy of my “wtf is that?!” exclamation. and it’s probably going to mark the end of my blogging – now *that* i have truly enjoyed and will miss very much. well, at least much more than strutting down the catwalk and giving my best “blue steel”. so fare thee well to anyone and everyone who has bothered to read my sh*t. i thank you.

and so does the axolotl.

facebook me if you like :)

Hello Gorgeous People!

November 30th, 2011 by Melanie Fe Goh

Hi! Well, well, the finals is finally happening tomorrow evening! My plan for today was to hit the gym but I am a little bit lazy so I am postponing my workout session to Friday afternoon instead. Will be heading to Waraku @ Marine Square for dinner tonight though, yum! Probably going to try to squeeze in a haircut too before tomorrow.

I am truly looking forward to meeting the other contestants again, and also some whom I have not met, and hopefully tomorrow will be fun and exciting, especially so for the two contestants who are going to win Most Gorgeous Male and Female! I wonder who it will be… we shall have to wait and see tomorrow night!
See you guys there tomorrow!<3

Argentine Tango @ The Botanic Gardens

November 30th, 2011 by Joreis Ong

Hi everyone! One more day to the finals of Female 50 Gorgeous People 2011! I’m so excited!!! (^_^) I bet it’s going to be a fun filled event for all 50 of us,our supporters and everyone who made this glamorous event possible!

Before the big day, I’d like to share about another of my passion, which is Argentine Tango, specifically Nuevo Tango.

Tango Nuevo (Nuevo Tango, Neotango or simply Nuevo) is a form of music in which new elements are incorporated into traditional Argentine tango, or an evolution of tango dance that began to develop in the 1980s. Tango Nuevo music and dance are examples of constantly changing forms of Argentine tango. Those of you who are familar with Gotan Project or are fans of their music, will know that they are one of the trendsetting performing artists for Nuevo music. The music has more of a rock and pop feel to it, in contrast to traditional tango music.

This year, I had the pleasure to have an Argentine Tango performance at the Botanic Gardens. All of us put in months of hard work to prepare for it and we are happy that it was a fabulous performance that received lots of positive feedbacks from the audience. Some of us even received invitations to perform for private functions. It was really a great opportunity to showcase and expose the public to the beauty of Argentine Tango.

Do check out more on Argentine Tango. Although it is not easy to master the dance, once you’ve got it, you will be addicted to it! (^_^)

Run For A Reason

November 30th, 2011 by Benjamin Bautista

On this week, I am presented with a challenge to complete a full marathon. And as their tag line say – run for a reason, I am reflecting what could be my reason for doing this.

Many of my friends know that I started the first quarter of this year in a bad note. I was quite the frustrated man who had faced many challenges and disappointments in life. But I did not let all those frustrations cover me. I had shaken it off and continue to pursue my goals. My tag line then was to prove and improve. I did not wait for opportunities to strike my way but I made ways to make new opportunities.

Now, I’m confident to say that I’m finishing the year in flying colors. The last quarter is giving me so much blessings and unexpected things such as a grand concert with my chorale group, a trip to China with friends, a job security in a broadcasting company, an upcoming holiday vacation with my family and of course the opportunity to be one of Female Magazine’s 50 Gorgeous People of 2011 where the finale event will be held tomorrow.

It is true that life is not a race but a marathon. It doesn’t matter who succeed first in life as we are not in a race. What matters is how we run the marathon, our life. Frustrations are part of the challenge in achieving our goals. No other person can finish your run but yourself. No one can help you but yourself alone.

So a run for a reason they might ask – I think that the best reason in this challenge is a reason that you can achieve your dreams or succeed if you just continue running. Even if the marathon is tough, don’t you dare give up!

‘The day’ is coming…soon!

November 28th, 2011 by Lina Osman

Hey guys,

I’ve been on hiatus for so long. My first blog post was way before the previews and now….The FINALS are nearing!!! Really excited to meet the rest of the gorgeous people again.

So what have I been busy with? WORK of course…and weddings! Yups…one of my best girlfriends got married yesterday and another one 2 weeks before. So I’ve been running around most of the weeks meeting up with the ladies before they embark on a new journey with a new ‘Mrs’ title. Taking this opportunity to congratulate and wish them all the best. Forgive my unruly hair in the pic. Haha. Typical me..I’ve never had a good hair day. However, Liza looked stupendous on her special day. ♥ u babe!

with the gorgeous bride liza ♥

This week’s gonna be the last week for everyone to vote till finals on Thursday…so I’m giving a shout-out to everyone out there to cast your votes for your favourite! Hurry!

Cheers,
Lina

BeiJing! Benj-in!

November 27th, 2011 by Benjamin Bautista

‘Rugrats in Paris’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’, ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, ‘Seven Years in Tibet’ – all these movies are about the characters and their particular story in that place. On its magnificent location, these movies bring us to distinctive stories about fun, action, romance, drama and memories with the characters.

Recently, I explored the land of Beijing China with seven of my friends. Like any other group vacation movie such as the Hangover II (in Thailand), the trip was full of stories that made it memorably exciting and fun. What makes our Beijing vacation thrilling is how to communicate with the locals. None of us can speak Chinese so it was definitely a challenge to get a cab and go to places, or go shopping or do anything where you need to interact with someone who doesn’t understand what you are saying.

One story I can share was when we were in a restaurant and ordered our dinner. One of us doesn’t want a cold drink because of a sore throat so he wanted to change one cold drink to a hot one. We tried to tell the lady waiter to change it but she could not understand English. So obviously one of my friend acted what we wanted. He said “we want hot” (pointing his face, indicating that he’s a hottie.. lol), “not cold” (doing a shivering action). The lady waiter took the cold drink and we were all happy because she understood us finally (especially my “hot” friend). But when the waiter came back smiling, she brought us a different flavored cold drink. We were all laughing after that because that means my friend is not hot enough for the lady waiter! Haha! It was quite funny experience to be lost in translation.

In a short description, my 6 days experience in Beijing has a lot of different stories to tell. It was a memorable event because of the 7 friends I was with. China is a very engaging country to explore because of its rich culture and background but being with 7 different personalities makes the plot more interesting. Here are some of our pictures taken using Canon EOS 5D.

Finals?!

November 27th, 2011 by Kaori Foo

On the way home now and it really struck me that the Female 50 GP finals is taking place really soon! Did I mention I missed the preview because I was in Korea? I just realized there was a runway then, and probably at the finals too. Some things that make me rather nervous:

- I don’t know any of the contestants! What if no one talks to me?:(
- Sky high heels and I don’t go very well together. Don’t relish the thought of falling off the runway. Not cool.
- Team mates will probably be at cheerleading training. Where to find more spirited supporters?

Gahh. Kk don’t sweat the small stuff. Things will work out somehow I suppose. See y’all soon! :)

Valentino Perspective

November 27th, 2011 by Joreis Ong

Hi everyone, today I am going to share with you the “Valentino Perspective” that was held at Resort World Sentosa. The exclusive exhibition featured haute couture looks from Valentino’s early works, designed by founder Valentino Garavani himself, to present-day creations by current Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli.

I’ve always admired Valentino’s fashion and this exhibition gave me an opportunity to view his works up close. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me and I am sure all Valentino fans in Singapore would have caught it too. Now, let me now take you through a tour of what was showcased. (^_^)

Oh wow. Time whizzed by.

November 26th, 2011 by Kaori Foo

Oops. Have been MIA for a very long time. Was reading everyone’s blog posts, and life seems to have been extremely exciting for them! As for me, the most exciting was that I went to Korea! After years of promising to visit, I finally made it there. Which Singaporean loves chilly weather? I do! Holidays are good for the soul, I swear, especially those who slog 830am to 615pm five days a week. I also love holidays because they are learning journeys which give me an insight into foreign culture! Some observations in Korea:

- You order one main dish and get at least 5 side dishes! I tried to waste as little as possible so I was perpetually stuffed.
- Koreans are encouraged to exercise. There was such a dearth of escalators in the train stations!
- The few escalators available moved really slowly.
- Spitting in public was rather rampant. Couple of times the spit missed my shoes by inches.
- It would be virtually impossible to traipse around Jeju or take the bus without command of the language.

Pictures would speak a million words. Will post some on Monday (I hope!)
